Can a couple au pair together?

An au pair couple refers to two friends or a steady couple with the desire to stay together during the au pair stay. However, au pairs need to be aware of the fact that there are relatively few host families who choose the option of simultaneously hosting two adults, as there is a certain cost involved.

Do Au Pairs pay tax?

As the Au Pair program is not recognised officially as an exchange program by the government, Au Pairs will have to follow the rules as if they were standard employees. This means that tax will be withheld from the Au Pair’s pay and they’ll be obligated to lodge a tax return each year.

Are au pairs tax deductible?

Yes. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) does tax Au Pair participants. Per the IRS Au Pair webpage, “au pair wages are includible in the gross income of the recipients, and au pairs are required to file U.S. individual income tax returns.”

Do au pairs charge per child?

Fees and au pair salary are per family, not per child. When using Au Pair in America to find your au pair, program costs include; either a one-time match fee (new or reactivating host families) or a $450 program fee deposit (repeat host families), a program fee, and a weekly stipend paid directly to your au pair.

Can two people au pair together?

Can I share my au pair with another family? No, au pairs are placed with an individual family that has been properly screened by Cultural Care Au Pair. Au pairs are permitted to care for the children of their host family and may not babysit additional children in or outside of the host family’s home.

What if au pair gets pregnant?

Not having children is part of the conditions in the au pair contract. If an au pair got pregnant, she would be deported.

Are au pairs allowed to date?

If they are ok with you going on dates: great! Many Host Families have special rules though, such as not having your date come over to their house or wanting to meet them once the relationship is starting to get more serious. If they’re not ok with you dating, you should respect that, too.

Do au pairs get sick days?

Sick time is very subjective and changes for every situation so we really can’t provide written documentation in that regard, especially because this is not a work program and au pairs are not given “sick time” as a normal employee would.
